I get some messages that go something like "I want to improve my life, but I don't have the motivation to do anything. Not even something like drinking more water." I get a surprising amount of these messages. Yes, sometimes this is because something is awry in our diet, sleep, lifestyle, etc. However, sometimes we're just lacking discipline. We can't always rely on motivation. We don't wait for inspiration to brush our teeth. We just do it. SOME discipline is required to do almost anything in life. Going to failure seems to be good at building discipline. Pushing yourself beyond the point of "ugh I want to give up" seems to help. I give a simple exercise here that's been used by martial artists for millennia to build strength and discipline. It doesn't HAVE to be this. You can apply the failure/discipline principle to any exercise. But this one works well because it's relatively safe and training our legs can really suck. In this case, that's a good thing.
